The first meeting of the new History of Education network in the European
Educational Research Association took place at Lahti, Finland in September
1999. The network started with a symposium in three parts, containing eleven
papers, based around the idea of Ways of Seeing Teachers and Pupils'.
It was a very successful meeting. Following on the style of work and
heterogeneous approach within the earlier international seminars
on Silences and Images, the network encourages a multi-disciplinary approach
to the study of space, time and materials in the history of schooling,
and particularly of classrooms.
The convenors of this network are Ian Grosvenor, Martin Lawn, Ulrike
Mietzner,Henk van Setten and Frank Simon. As this is a visually minded
network, here's a chance to see the bodies at play.
